The new HITECH Act recognizes the guidelines set forth by the Healthcare Industry Cybersecurity Practices (HICP) as a Recognized Security Practice (RSP) to help healthcare organizations achieve compliance, reduce financial risk, and increase patient safety.
The updated HHS 405(d) HICP publication is expected for imminent release. With this update, guidelines for Medical Device Security (Mitigation Practice #9) have received substantive clarity. In addition, the Joint Commission is considering the addition of connected medical devices to their surveys.
